V.A. 001 – Tiptop Audio Recordings
“the whole record is a delight from start to finish, a must have for any discerning Techno fans”
Perhaps best known for their high quality production tools, Tiptop Audio has spent the last decade or so pushing at the forefront of the resurgence of analogue synthesizers and digital control interfaces. However, 2015 sees them launch their own label and they have lined up a stellar cast of ground-breaking artists who inspire them. Angle, Blawan, Christian Burkhadt, Joao Ceser, Phase VI (John Tejada and Drumcell), Joseph Fraioli, Kink, Richard Devine and Surgeon feature, each of them producing a track that represents their own musical ethos and style.
The entire release is packed with techno treats, from the straight four of Angle to the shifting rhythms of Phase VI and the face slappingly industrial offerings of Blawan. Richard Devine and Joseph Fraioli really push the boundaries of time signatures and beat making with their supremely glitch oriented, dark and sinister sounds. Surgeon keeps it minimal while Christian Burkhardt and Joao Ceser stick to classic patterns but with a fat, thumping overtone.
It is hard to pick a stand out track from these, the range of styles and methods vary but Tiptop have clearly taken the curation and production of these tracks very seriously. It has paid dividends, the whole record is a delight from start to finish, a must have for any discerning Techno fans.
The release will initially come as a double vinyl edition, with a cover painted by the artist Matteo Giampaglia, and a digital download version will follow.
