Q&A 003 – Severino Panzetta (Horse Meat Disco)

As a member of the internationally renowned four man Dj collective that is Horse Meat Disco, Severino has over ten years of experience on the London club scene. His parties have had some of the biggest artists in the world grace the stage at their residency every Sunday at The Eagle London. Now he plays all over the world showcasing his unique mixture of Disco and House. We’re very happy he decided to stop by and answer our questions.
First of all, as we will be talking about ‘downstairs’, what’s the first thing that comes in to your mind when you hear that word?
A basement with a proper sound system,red lights and a disco ball
Talking about music and your work, tell us about your favourite downstairs venue you’ve played / been to, whether in London or elsewhere. Why was it special?
Plastic People still one of my fav. Intimate but warm too… Dance Tunnel is special too… And… I used to love Happiness Stans at Smiths in the 90s!
What differences would you make to your set for a basement gig compared to an outdoor / terrace / festival one? Do you get a different feeling whilst playing in such different venues?
I guess deeper music.

Yes of course! It can be darker but not all night of course…
Could you tell us about three of your most essential ‘downstairs’ tracks?
Any Kerry Chandler and Theo Parrish stuff, but also some Paradise Garage vibe too… why not!
Talking a little bit more about yourself, what’s the most unique or interesting experience you’ve ever had while below ground level?

If you had a basement, what would you hide in it?
A sound system and maybe some money? LOL
