Photonz ‘Gnosis Of Wolfers EP’ – Creme Organization
“an hypnotically clever neural journey”
Raw. Distorted. Intense. A pure journey. This is what came into my mind when I sat and listened to Photonz’s latest effort on Crème Organization. The Portuguese producer, head of One Eyed Jack, delivers an outstandingly futuristic four tracker (plus one digital bonus) in which his infinite inspirations and influences becomes clear . Acid House, Techno and House are merged with a World Music feeling as well and some 80’s synth Pop, some Electro and Post Punk. All this subtle references make ‘Gnosis Of Wolfers EP’ an intriguing piece of music. The EP follows Marco/Photonz’s record on DJ Haus’ Unknown To The Unknown and both affirm that hard work in the Underground scene soon reward.
The EP opens with the title track, an Epic broken beat – cowbell driven cut with a strong melancholic feeling. Following is ‘Ceremonial Acid’ in which powerful bass-line are fused with crying distorted synths melodies. Filtherhatz, is a down tempo acidy club filler with semblances of Detroit Techno melodies, a dark groove which kicks in after the drop and, oh well, filtered hats… My choice of the four is ‘Sad Manic’; an hypnotically clever neural journey in which any standard of 4/4 music is recreated. It makes me think a lot of a Radiohead atmosphere, the weird soulful and intimate analogue synth melodies and a whispering voice underneath the unconventionally minimalist drum machine patterns.
